REVIEW: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

[Disclaimer: I purchased this product with my own money, and everything I'll be saying is based off my opinion, I'm not trying to push my opinions onto you, this is just to be helpful!]

To be honest, I really didn't like this product all that much, it was slightly clumpy, it was too fluid-y, I really don't feel the difference it makes, my make up did not last longer, and it costs a lot more then it is really worth, in my opinion.

So why am I reviewing it? Well, I feel like there's a lot of people who will go and purchase this product just because it is talked about a lot. There are so many other alternatives, and I just don't think this one is worth it, but I wanted to give a thorough reasoning/review, and not just say it and that's it.

[The Pros]
-Crease Resistent
-Colour Correcting
-Not Sticky
-Supposedly Creamy

[The Cons]
-Not Strong Enough
-Can Be Difficult To Blend
-Not As Long Wearing As I'd Like
-Doesn't Resist Hot Summer Weather
-Doesn't Go On Smoothly
-Slightly Oily
-Creases in the Corners of Eye
-Clumpy

[Real Life Experience]
So I wasn't going to review it until I really tried it out. I used it with my Urban Decay Naked Palette since it's what my primer potion came with, and went out for the day. Personally I don't mind creasing, I actually like it, but for something that is suppose to prevent creasing, it really didn't do that well of a job. By the time I got out of school, which was from 8-2:40pm back then, my inner and outer corners had slightly creased. The colour stay is pretty good, but I did get some movement in my shadow, and so it doesn't really hold the colour down, it just keeps the colour there. Overall, it did its job in making my shadows last, but I just feel like, if I'm going to spend money on something, I want it to be one that does more then just the basics of the job, and really holds things down.

I think this is something you can try out if say Sephora is giving out free samples, and maybe you'll have better luck with it, but I wouldn't suggest purchasing the full size until you really feel like its a good primer, because I really don't see it as "holy grail" material.

The full size version comes in a tube form and can be purchased at Sephora for $19.

For five dollars more, the Laura Mercier Eye Primer can be purchased at your local department store for only $24.

A cheaper alternative is the Elf Cosmetic's Mineral Eye Primer and it can be purchased at any Target stores, or online at eyeslipsface.com, for only $1-$3.
(Personally this one isn't that great, but if you're going to buy the Urban Decay one, you mind as well save the money and get the Elf one, because the two of them are really similar in consistency and formula.)

[Introduction] Haute Stuff

HELLO guys (: I've yet again have a series to start! I know, I know! Why so many series all of a sudden? Well, my blog is really new, and so I hadn't really planned out series or anything, but now I've thought things through and I wanted things to be organized and so I thought I would do series! Anyways, onto my new series "Haute Stuff". YES, yet again another pun (: I'm just so punny! huh? (lame joke, I'll admit!) Anyways, "Haute Stuff" is a series that just is basically my current wants, because I'm constantly craving that next thing!

[Introduction] Kiss & Make Up Series

HELLO guys (: So this blog is about fashion and beauty, which to me includes make up as well, and so this "series" I'm going to start is conveniently named "kiss and MAKE UP" just because I'm a huge fan of puns! So basically this is my introduction to this series, and I'm just going to tell a little bit about what it'll be about. (I know I already have a make up post, about my travel make up but that was before I decided to name my posts about make up!)

[Who] Most of them will by me, but sometimes I'll ask my friends who are really good with make up to insert some opinions or model for me what they're wearing!

[What] -Make Up & Make Up Product Reviews
-Ways To Wear Certain Make Up
-Top Favorite Make Ups
-FOTD/FOTN (face of the day/face of the night)
-Best     insert make up here
-Trending Colours/Looks
-How To:      insert style/look here
-Tips & Ideas
-& much more :]

[When] I'll try to post these every so often, I do however want to keep most of my post about fashion and stuff so it won't be all the time!

[Where] HERE (: Where else?

[Why] Just because I love playing around with make up, and I love talking about make up, I mean that's like pretty much the topic I talk about most when I'm with a lot of my girl friends!

Tell me what you think about this(:

xoxo,
Shannon!

Gell/Shellack Nails

[12:02pm] Hello everyone (: So in a bit I'm going to go get my nails done with my mom, and we're going to be trying out the much hyped "gel" or "shellack" nails! These aren't like acrylics where they're gluing on a piece of fake nail or anything, these are just on your own nail, yet they look great and last long.

What they claim:
-Long Wearing & Long Lasting (2-3 Weeks)
-Help Keep Your Nails Strong
-Does Not Chip Like Regular Nail Polish
-Easy To Remove

Negativities that I've heard of:
-Not A Big Colour Selection
[However! You could just use the UV base coat, then apply your own regular nail polish colour, and then use the UV top coat, and it'll have the same similar effect of gel nails! Perhaps not as long wearing, but still great!]

[5:14pm] So I am finally home to blog about my nails! I'm extremely happy with the turn out! It did take a bit of time, but its only a tad bit longer then regular nails.. the best part? Its all dried and you can do anything you want as soon as they're done with you!
So that is what they look like, they feel really good and its suppose to last a while! I really hope they last for prom! Perhaps I'll get them redone for the special occasion, but if not these would be quite useful. I wasn't too bold, and so I did a cute shimmery pink colour by OPI, I wish I wrote down what colour this was, but sadly I did not, and so I can not share it with you guys!

If this doesn't last or I don't like it, I'll be sure to update on that, but so far I really like gel nails, and from all my friends who have done these, they have loved it the same!

Thank you for reading!

Shannon :]

When In Boredom, Blog Around.

Sitting in my business class with absolutely nothing to do, I decided to post something here, luckily this is one of the only websites that I enjoy, that is not horrendously blocked by this stupid bureaucracy system. Beyond this, I really do not have much in store to share, so I'm just going to talk about fashion in my future.

So next year, I'll be attending FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) in Los Angeles, and it took a lot of decision making and really finding who I am to get to where I am today.

I first realized I wanted to be in fashion when I was in junior high school, but back then I had this unrealistic belieft that I could do anything I wanted. I was settled on nothing less then becoming the next big Fashion Designer, and I would devote hours to watching shows like Project Runway. My mom would constantly tell me how hard it would be and ask me if I was certain this was what I wanted to do, and I would be annoyed because in a young kids mind, parents are just negativity givers... But of course my mom was ultimately right, and she had my best interest in mind. So what now? Were my dreams entirely crushed? I clearly didn't have the talent to become the next big hit in the design field, sure I had good ideas but not nearly enough of them. I couldn't even sketch too well, let alone sew and stitch and put together pieces. I was left lost again, and I needed to find myself.

As I entered high school, all my hopes and dreams of being in the fashion field began to vanish, and I started looking into more "realistic" jobs, which in my point of view were more boring jobs, and I couldn't stand them. Because of my lack of security in my future, I had no motivation, and clearly I did not try in high school as much as I should have. It wasn't until junior year that I realized my future may not be clear, but it was clearly on the line right now, and I had to step it up. I started trying a bit more and taking Advance Placement classes. Despite all this I still had not a slightest idea of what I was going to do. I thought perhaps I'll just go to a California State University and major in psychology, a major that is slightly a gate way to various different other jobs. But there was this problem, it wasn't what I wanted for myself and I knew I would be absolutely miserable.

I had known of FIDM and I even attended FIDM's Three Days of Fashion the summer before Junior year, and so I was on their mailing list. FIDM sent me a invitation to their open house, and just for the heck of it I decided to go. BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE. There at the open house, I found my dream major and the school was perfect for me. That day, I applied, and was sent home with a short two weeks to complete an entrance project that would determine whether I would make it or not. For once in my life I felt like there was purpose to try. I did my best, in fact I went beyond what was required and turned in my best abilities, not just the minimum. After my interview, they automatically accepted me, and I had this relief at heart.

Tons of my friends right now are torn between what they want to do next year, and what they should do next year, because they don't know their place yet. Others haven't recieved any news from their dream colleges, or worse, some of them had been rejected. I, on the other hand, do not have to deal with any of this, because I already have a place for next year. I'm not saying this to show off, what I mean is, really find what you want in life, and don't settle for less then that. People think they have to go to certain colleges or be certain people, and they forget to ask themselves what it is that they want for themselves. If you find your dream place, it really gives you motivation and it'll really help you to achieve your goals.

So this was really ranty, and although it was about FIDM I barely touched on my love for fashion, so perhaps I'll talk about that another time. As for now, the bell is about to ring, and so I must bid you all farewell, until next time!

xoxo,
Shannon

Looking Haute Session 1 - Long Long Way From Home

What are "Looking Haute Sessions"? This is just a silly title for my posts with street fashion or pictures of fashion that I see and like and want to share! So sometimes it'll be one person with one outfit, other times it'll be a collective of different types of clothes on a certain model, and then other times it'll just be a collection of different people I see on the street (: Hope you guys like it!

Disclaimer: I did take these pictures, and so they do belong to me, so please give credit! Excuse the bad photography and picture quality, as pretty as she looks, my friend looks even prettier then these pictures do her justice!

THE WHAT of Spring2011 (continued)

Hey everyone! So if you haven't already, check out part one of this, CLICK HERE which talks about hyper colour and lace embrace, two of the seven trends of Spring 2011 according to style.com (:

DISCLAIMER: These pictures are pictures I get off their website, and although I do photoshop so they are together, I do not claim any right on these pictures! Also, my views are simply my views, do not feel obligated to follow these trends, personally I don't follow all of them, and I understand that everyone has their own individual styles!

Midi is the Message being quite short myself, I probably won't be rocking this style...
Who - Personally I think this is a look for taller people.. but anyone pretty much can pull it off!
What - (okay it might sound weird but...) these are 3/4 length skirts, so basically to mid-calf.
When - ANYTIME.... depending on how you dress it up?
Where - ANYWHERE? Preferably a nicer outing, going to the market like this could be a bit weird unless you shop at perhaps Whole Foods or Bristol Farms?
Why - Because its fashionable and easy to put together!
How - Buying or Re-doing Hem Lines
[From Left to Right, Top Row to Bottom Row]
Charles Anastase great for a simple business-y but still fashionable up look!
Although the colour is just a simple slightly shiny material, its details are beautiful, and being a midi, it gives it that fashionable but smart (nerdy) look! Very cute!
Alternatives: Nordstrom, H&M, & 2nd Hand Stores! (I couldn't really find an example via websites simply because my internet was majorly lagging ): ! If you find one please send it in!)
This look will definitely go great for internships or interviews! But of course you'd have to find some closed toe pretty shoes! However it also goes great with a nice outing with friends, I picture her sitting at a nice outdoor cafe, sipping on coffee, while reading a book or filling out her schedule book, ready for an awesome internship at a fashion magazine?
Clements Ribeiro look at that spring colour! she's killing two birds with one stone! hyper colour + midi is the message & she looks amazing!
This is one of the more bolder looks, so I definitely would be a bit shy to pull this look off, but if you have the guts and you have the height, go for it!
Alternatives: Nordstrom! It won't be cheap but you don't want to go cheap with a look like this! Colour wise it won't be as beautiful and fitting wise, going cheap can cause you to fit funny, but if you really don't want to splurge, you could always try F21?
This look is perfect for a day time look, I don't really suggest night time for this one! To me, this dress reminds me of Easter! But of course its probably the colour it is. If you're like me, you could go for a more lighter colour or a darker green tone, but if you're bold, yellows and oranges and reds will definitely bring this look to life!
DKNY florals for spring, how original. but no this is tres cute!
The florals make it so casual and free spirited, but the length really adds to the dressed up feel. I really suggest this look, because although it makes a statement its not too out there where someone like me would feel shy, yet its so nicely put together!
Alternatives: Try FreePeople, Urban Outfitters, or Second Hand Stores like Buffalo Exchange or Wasteland [for example: this (which isn't collared but its florals!)]
Like I said, perfect look to invest in! (if you look good with collars and florals!) its perfect for walking around shopping or going on a date with your beau!
Donna Karan by far my favorite out of all the countless midi's I browsed!
This look is gorgeous! White is just so flattering on most skin tones, and if you look better in creams, find a dupe of this in cream! I think this is so lovely, so well put together, without looking like you tried too hard. Its messy but dressed nice? I just cannot say enough good things about this look.
AlternativesTHIS + a white blazer? Try H&M!
This will go lovely for Spring nights and even days! It really just depends on how you piece it and where you're going. It is a bit overdressing for a lot of day time events, but since it is white, its not so bad! Try not to hit the mall in this, its a bit weird, unless you don't mind?
Georgio Armani fashion for the big events.
I'm not going to talk to much about this look, just because most people will not have a chance to wear this, but if you are someone who attends big balls and need a nice sleek look that's in style now, but doesn't really want to buy a whole new dress? REDO THE HEM LINE of an older floor length slim gown! It'd be lovely and a sparkly head scarf? Perfect touch!
Emporio Armani things you have that make this new look.
Again, this is a bit more formal, but really easy to master. Find an old long skirt and just up the hem line so that it fits nicely on you at the mid-calf. Then you could probably use a poof-y skirt to do the silver part, if you don't have anything like that, alter the look up with another kind of shiny skirt! then just add a flow-y black blouse (that was in a few years ago) and bam you have a new look!

Well, that's all for today (: Hope you guys liked this look! If you try any of it out please send it in and show me and I'll definitely try to post it up on one of my blogs! xoxo

Please keep an eye out for upcoming looks such as Prints Revolution and Seeing the Light <3

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioning Review

Who: Those with dried or damaged hair.
What: This is a deep conditioner that fixes dry and damaged hair.
When: After you shampoo and condition, as many times you want a week, I prefer 1-2 times. (but its so light weight that you can potentially do it everyday without your hair feeling too heavy)
Where: You can purchase this product at most drugstores and Walmart (maybe Target).
Why: Because deep conditioning really helps your hair, whether you're trying to grow it out, or trying to fix it, or even if you just want to maintain that beautiful flow of hair!
How: 1. Shampoo & Condition your hair 2. Apply Aussie 3 Minute Miracle all over your wet hair, and then tie it into a bun 3. Go on & wash the rest of your body OR stand and wait for 2 minutes and 45 seconds 4. Untie your hair, and rinse with warm water 5. Rinse your hair one more time, but this time with cold water, & you're done!

Likes & Dislikes!
:) - Super light weight, affordable, smells good, cute packaging (i.e. "Use the next 2 minutes and 45 seconds to think deep thoughts about your day"), & my hair has felt much lovelier so it really works!
:( - Bottles a little small, & a little hard to squeeze, no real cap - so its hard to bring when you travel.

Overall, I have not real complaints about the product itself, and I really really encourage everyone to pick this product up, if you have dry and damaged hair! Even if its just a little bit on the dry side and you only have a few split ends, I think its really worth it!

I'm not entirely sure how much it costs, but I'm certain its less the 10 US dollars and I dare say its less than 8 US dollars! I want to say its around 6 or 7 but I don't want to be too bold! Whatever the price, its not too much and its well worth it!

My Rating: (1 - 10; 10 = perfect) I'd give this product a 9 out of 10 (:

Please let me know what you guys think of this product (if you already have it or if you go out and try it) also, please let me know what you think of the way I reviewed this, and what I can add or take out that will make it a lot better, lastly, if there's anything you'd like me to review, please let me know in the comments (: Thanks for reading! Please Comment & Follow <3

Shannon!

March 29, 2011 - Notebook Blog

[Hello, I drew this, and wrote all this, and its just basically a "diary" of what I wore, and more for each day, I don't think I'll do one everyday, but I'll try to be consistent with these, so tell me what you think about them (: thanks!]

Is this readable? Please let me know! xoxo

THE WHAT of Spring2011

[Disclaimer: The source I used for this particular post was style.com which is an AMAZING site, and I think everyone should go look at it! This is in no way telling anyone how to dress, in fact, I myself do not follow all these trends, but I just wanted to bring them to attention and give a little bit of my opinion]

Hyper Colour This one takes a lot more of the gutsy type to pull of. I'm not particularly a bold dresser, I can do odd and interesting, but bold colours make me quite the nervous. However if you're confident or even looking to make a new statement, hyper colour is perfect this Spring!

[From Left to Right] Burberry Prorsum not completely dressy but not too casual! This look seems perfect for shopping, its comfortable and convenient, for example, when the lines are massive, why wait if you just have a cute skirt to try on? Throw it over the skin tight black leather leggings in front of a mirror, and you're able to tell whether it fits or flatters your body! Plus, this look will definitely catch the attention of others! Forever 21 is a good alternative for this style, it does tend to have a flashy bright coloured section, especially if you have the new and insane F21 that's two stories big! American Apparel is a good choice too! Simple but nice quality, and it tends to fit splendidly! They often have some nice and bright colours that will help you make this look.
Carolina Herrera cute and bold, but also very classy! This dress is gorgeous, I can just picture the model showing off her nice tan walking down a shopping street, say Rodeo Drive? Then getting picked up in a hot car by a hot date, all while she looks tres haute. I do think this colour in particular looks better on fair haired girls, however if you have the tan, you could probably pull it off too! On this model, they kept the shoes simple, that's very key! If you overwhelm the outfit with some extravagant heels, it might come off as overly sassy or trying to hard, so avoid over cluttering your style when wearing this dress, even if it works, your shoes are stealing away from your outfit! I'm sure other bright colours like sea greens or cyan blues will look just as good in this style! Again, try F21 for an affordable alternative, they just have so many styles there, I have to always suggest it! Another good option is perhaps H&M, I haven't checked out their current inventory, but I'm certain I've seen something to this effect once! Also, if you want to splurge, try out department stores, they'll definitely be in on this seasons specials, and you want to go get them fast before all the good sizes are gone!
Christian Dior fun, flirty, and full of Katy Perry. I don't know if you feel the same way, but when I saw this, my mind instantly flickered to Katy Perry's amazing style. I wish I had the guts to pull this one off, but I really don't! Its super cute though, and pencil skirts and blazers are quite classy, but splashing them up with a bit of colour and even brighter accessory definitely adds more to the look, creating this insanely cute but still not too casual look! Definitely go to American Apparel to buy some bright skirts and tanks! I'm not sure where you could find a bright coloured blazer, but if I find one I'll definitely share! Hot Topic has a lot of bright accessories, and they redid the stores, no longer quite as scary, if that was ever a reason that stopped you, and they have the cutest little accessories for a real nice price! H&M tends to have nice accessories too, I'm unsure where you could get shoes like that in the States, but I know when I go to Asia, there is a ton of bright and cute shoes to splurge on, so if your visiting the Oriental Countries any time soon, be sure to pick some up! And of course, try F21 if you don't want to spend of fortune on this look! Especially if you know you won't have the courage to wear it too often!
There are so many more colourful and super beautiful ones for Hyper Colour, I chose these because I thought they were the most wearable for the common mass! But definitely check out styledotcom!

Lace Embrace This is my top favorite trend of this Spring! I just love lace, and this time they used such sheer material, it adds quite a twist to the classic lace! Sheer is also great as the weather heats up! You can wear long sleeved lacy shirts, and be too haute not too hot! I know lace isn't everyones style, but it is part of mine, I just love how classy this look is, yet it has its sexiness too! I went a bit crazy on this one and have eight examples for you1 I tried to pick ones that are easiest to actually replicate and wear! I know runway sometimes goes a bit crazy and makes this unwearable looks.

[From Left to Right, Top Row to Bottom Row] Alberta Ferretti is that not gorgeous? Such a lovely look for spring and summer, I can imagine just strolling down the sunlit streets of Europe in that dress. It would be my dream dress for my dream vacation, no doubt about it! I think its not too over dressed up, but you definitely don't look lazy, its effortless in a effort-full way! I want to say Foreign Exchange might have some styles similar to this, but I'm not sure if everywhere has a Foreign Exchange, it is making a rise though as a competitor of F21! Speaking of F21, I'm pretty sure they'll have one thing or two that's very similar to this, and it'll be a good price! The thing about F21 that I don't trust when it comes to clothes like this, is unless you take care of your clothes, i.e. hand wash, line dry, etc. it will deteriorate fast! (Perhaps I'll blog or even vlog about how to keep clothes nice!) Also the materials not always the best, especially recently it has seemed to be declining, so it might not flow as effortlessly! If you can definitely check out department stores!
Anna Sui so casual but so trendy and classy! This is a look you can wear on a day out with a cute boy or even just your girlfriends! Its definitely a day time look in the picture, but I think if you pull some things apart and pair it with perhaps black or dark brown tights and some black bootie heels, you could transform this into a still Spring like night life style! Anyways, this will definitely be a style F21 has to offer! Also try Free People, I know its pricier but the quality is great! I'd go try out Marshals! They tend to have a ton of Free People for a great price! Perhaps Urban Outfitters or Anthropology with have some of this! I haven't checked, but they do tend to have this sort of look! (Free People is sold at these stores as well!) I know these stores are a bit on the high priced end, but I believe these buys will never truly go out of style, and so they're very much worth the splurge.
D&G oolala! I think you'll definitely turn heads if you pull this look off! Its very vacation-y lax looking, especially paired with a big bright floral bag like in the picture. I can just see this look on someone who pulls up to a nice resort! You don't need a lot of money though to pull off this look! You just have to shop smart and add a few of your own twists and you could get that nice expensive look! I'd try Free People! Its the best bet! I'm not sure where else would carry things like this! Maybe F21 but I don't really think their look reaches this deep of a sophisticated look, they tend to market towards a younger girly look.
Collette Dinningan is this classy or what? You can't go wrong with Black Lace! I know its spring time, but how sheer that baby is? You could pull it off as a spring look, just don't wear too shiny of jewelry! I know this isn't a look everyone can just wear, but if you have a nice event to attend this spring, this look will definitely be a nice one to have! I say F21 might just have this look, if not definitely try out Free People and Urban Outfitters, I feel like there's one more store that'd have this but I just can't think of it! But I'm sure H&M and those sorts of stores will have similar dresses!
L'Wren Scott let's take it to the next level: fancy! Okay, so this look I really think is more suitable for the night time, but if you can pull this off during the day, be my guest! I think its an easy fix for a night out, you'll look fancy and dolled up, without the stress it takes! If you go to a nice restaurant or a nice place for drinks with the girls, or even a fancy dinner with a date, this will definitely wow your beau or your besties! This look is really fancy, so I don't recommend going cheap for this look, it can be really tacky if you don't pay enough. Price shouldn't be too big of an issue, but in this case, if its not a good material it won't be as flattering and you could just tell if its cheap! Sorry, I mean you can try out F21, but I suggest going to Nordstroms or Bloomingdales for this one! If that's out of your price range, I suggest going to Nordstrom Rack, Off Fifth, or Lohmens. Or if you don't mind try second hand stores like Buffalo Exchange or Wasteland, you can seriously find some nice things there for a great price!
Oscar de la Renta that is just super cute. I just see fancy outdoor afternoon tea, or some classy horse race, or a really really fancy picnic, because there is no way i'd sit on the grass in that gorgeous dress. This look is fun and sweet, and probably very comfortable! Throw on a big hat and it'll be beach strolling (the shops probably not so much the sandy areas) ready! I think F21 might have some cute ones, but definitely Free People and etc. Department stores definitely would be a good buy, but prices might steep!
Ralph Lauren I'm not too sure where you would get to wear this lovely dress, but I had to pick it. Prom maybe? If you have a easy going but still fancy theme! Long floor length, is beautiful! If you're famous, I'd wear something like this! Or if you have a really fancy dinner to go to, this will definitely catch people's eyes! I really don't know where you could get something this nice except department stores or online stores!
Vivienne Westwood Casually beautiful. This outfit is really fun and easy, and with the off the shoulder look, you look quite flirty! This is one of my favorites from this trend, I just think its something you can wear while your shopping around or just taking a walk somewhere cute! Its also good for lunch, and I'm sure you can fancy it up for dinner! I'd check out F21, H&M, Urban Outfitters, and Department stores for this one!
